In loving memory of Ruth Bashall

Ruth Bashall - Founder

I am writing today to let you know some very sad news regarding Stay Safe East’s founder, Ruth Bashall.

“On behalf of Ruth’s family, both biological and chosen, I would like to share that my mother and proud grandmother of my two children, Ruth Bashall (nee Parsons), died on the 11th November 2023 following a period of illness. We remain proud of all she stood for and will miss her greatly.”

 Tamsin Bashall – Ruth’s daughter

“Ruth was active for decades in seeking social justice, in the disabled people’s movement and beyond, and defending and caring for survivors of violence and abuse. She played a central role in establishing and building up Stay Safe East and the work to which she was so committed will continue, despite the deep sadness so many of us feel.”

Savi Hensman – Chair, Stay Safe East

As the new CEO of Stay Safe East, I was, like so many others, completely inspired by Ruth. She was a fierce activist and advocate and never stopped fighting to make a positive difference. She will be missed by staff and clients alike and I know her death will resonate much more widely.

I know this news will come as a shock, as it did to us. If it helps you to reach out and share your own memories of Ruth, we would welcome your contribution to this book of condolences: Ruth Bashall | Online Condolence Book (rememberancebook.net). I would also appreciate you sharing this news with colleagues who may not have heard.

Please take care.

With warm wishes.

Angie
